Below are my current version of the score run notes. I’ll add links to past versions as I update these. Enormous gratitude to the BS Zelda fansite for their documentation on this game, without it I would have taken much longer to route this.

Notes

release the bee immediately. it has a chance of saving enough time to get 1000 extra points.

You want to complete all dungeons as fast as possible as the tablets decrease in point value. Absolutely anything not required can be obtained after. Until you obtain the first tablet, every minute that passes is 1,000 points loss, and for the second it’s still 500. Rupees are only 10 points each. Red rupees might be worth waiting a moment to grab.

Enemies with a “rupee only” drop table have their drop rate drop to near zero as you gain more rupees, i.e. Jellies and the Water Skimmers.

Damage taken also reduces points at a rate of 100 points per heart. Death is a high reduction on points, but you shouldn’t die - this game is significantly easier than Link to the Past.

Route outline

  • rush to the end of the first two dungeons before 1:15
  • at 1:15, farm rupees in the first jelly room for the duration of the buff. It’s possible there’s a better rupee farm location but this is very fast and consistent.
  • at 1:20 do D1 cleanup, you are racing the clock here but don’t fret if you can’t make it.
  • here you have two options. you may only have 1 minute before the storm begins, so you can make use of it by rushing to the rental shop and bombing the wall and renting the shovel. you’re going to spend the entire rainstorm digging in the clearing south of D1 as there’s no enemy spawns to interfere and there’s a long horizontal stretch.
  • once the rain ends, you’re going to cleanup from flute point 1 to the spire screen, then cleanup D2.
  • after D2 we’ll cleanup the overworld and rent the shovel again at any time after 1:33. if you’re running particularly late, you want to wait until 1:40-1:41 to rent it as this grants you enough time with the shovel until the second power of rupees
  • at 1:43 we do both overworld events
  • at 1:50 we farm jellies in D1
  • at 1:55 we end by getting the chests in the back of aginah’s house.

The Route

  • Ignore everything that’s not required. Complete the dungeon. Do not buy the upgrades - they don’t grant points.
Red rupees are usually worth giving up a bit of time for - 200 points each!

D2
